One of the easiest ways to travel light when flying is to substitute a backpack for traditional luggage. Although airlines do allow backpacks to be carried on by hand, there are strict limits depending on the airline. Backpacks come in many sizes and you’ll likely want one that can easily handle all your travel items. This can delay the flight, annoy the other passengers and may even result in you missing your flight if the captain feels it would result in an unacceptable delay to the flight schedule.
Knowing the weight of your bag as well as the materials you are allowed is very important. The average weight allowed for a carryon bag is forty pounds. If you are traveling internationally, the guidelines for maximum weight may vary. For example, if you were to fly with Air France you would be allowed a maximum weight of twenty-six pounds.
