Dinner Rush: A tumultuous day in the life of a recently fashionable N.Y.C. restaraunt. Owner Aiello is considering of giving up his bookie job, his megastar cook is requesting part ownership of the restaurant, and then 2 mobsters materialized to pay an unfriendly visit, etc. Flavorful film has the ring of reality inside the resaraunt, and outside it is is brimming with life. Cast includes Danny Aiello, Edoardo Ballerini, Vivian Wu, Mike McGlone, Kirk Acevedo, John Corbett, Sandra Bernhard, Summer Phoenix, Polly Draper, Mark Margolis, and Ajay Naidu. (100 minutes, 2001)
Bulletproof Heart: Fortunate hit guy LaPaglia gets a job he’s not really cut out for. He he hired to take out an attractive woman who is in dept with the mob. 4 well-conditioned, well-played characters containing Boyle’s gloomy mobster and Craven’s dimwit companion-don’t count quite make this a hit. Cast includes Anthony LaPaglia, Mimi Rogers, Peter Boyle, Matt Craven, and Joseph Maher. (100 minutes, 1994)
Mr. Nanny: Lame brained comedy characterizing Hogan as a fighter employed to look after a set of ruined, disregarded rich kids (whom nut ball Johansen is plotting to abduct). Cast includes Terry “Hulk” Hogan (Bollea), Sherman Hemsley, Austin Pendleton, Robert Gorman, Madeline Zima, and David Johansen. (84 minutes, 1984)
Boots Malone: Holden comes to life in the role of a gloomy personality who reforms while he trains Stewart to become a jockey. Cast includes William Holden, Johnny Stewart, Ed Begley, Harry Morgan, and Whit Bissell. (103 minutes, 19852)
The Front Page: Third filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play about crazy and woolly Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s has barely anything new to offer (with the exception of 4-letter words) although continues to be an entertaining piece of work. Cast includes Jack Lenunon, Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett, Susan Sarandon, Vincent Gardenia, David Wayne, Allen Garfield, Austin Pendleton, and Charles Duming. (105 minutes, 1974)
The Front Page: First filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play is strainful, ludicrous, and flamboyantly prompted. This version stands up relatively well alongside the redo. Cast includes Adolphe Menjou, Pat O’Brien, Mary Brian, Edward Everett Horton, Walter Catlett, Mae Clarke, and George E. Rock. (103minutes, 1931)
