The United Kingdom is a brilliant vacation destination. The reasons for this include rich and diverse history and stunning countryside. The types of available vacations is stunning with such a gigantic choice of places to stay each of which have different facilities and rural areas which range from areas with numerous mountains to amazingly flat parts. In the article below I take a look at the seaside and put forward the seaside resort of Southport, in England’s North West, as the finest seaside vacation destination in the British Isles.
Built on the English North West coast, Southport attractions include, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Hesketh Park, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Churchtown village, Wayfarers’ Arcade and more.
Southport’s Lord Street
Lord Street is the main street in Southport. All the way down one side of Lord Street the pavement are covered by ornate Victorian iron work together with a superb row of trees close to the edge of the pavement. On the facing side of Lord Street you will find small areas of gardens, garden beds, fountains and a bandstand. Right in the heart of Lord Street is more than likely the most bold war memorials in England with a centrally placed obelisk and two further memorials on either side which have large columns. Some of the finest architecture in Southport is to be found along Lord Street and it is where you will find the superb Wayfarers’ Arcade.
Parks & Gardens
Hesketh Park
At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park gets its name from the Hesketh family just like Lord Street the park has plenty of trees. Hesketh Park also has wonderful flower beds, hidden gardens, a play park, glass house and more but most prominent is the lovely lake.
Churchtown’s Botanic Gardens
At Churchtown you will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens which features a river/lake which has boats for hire, an ornate bridge, ducks, swans and other wildlife plus if you enjoy animals and birds the gardens also has a tiny zoo, just in front of the cafe and museum. The village of Churchtown is a graceful number of ancient cottages, fishermen’s cottages and houses most of which are white and some of them feature a roof of thatch. It is vital that you explore on foot and that you keep your eyes peeled as there are a few hidden gems well worth the trouble to find.
